I went to the wrong airport…

It was 4am in Bangkok.

I had an early flight to South Korea to start a new English teaching job. (so this flight was very important - as it was paid for by my school).

I got in a taxi and told him to go "to the airport".

....half way there, I discover there are TWO airports in Bangkok.

And I was on my way -- in traffic -- to the WRONG one!

Long story short: I missed my flight. Even worse, the replacement $800 flight came out of my first paycheck.

Here are the two travel lessons I learned from being stupid:

🚨 Lesson #1: When Booking Your Ticket

When you’re booking: Double confirm the airport + code.

"Turns out SJC is NOT the airport code for San Jose, Costa Rica. Rather, it’s San Jose, California." Same with Balipapan is not "Bali Indonesia".

Before you book, always double check with a quick Google.

🚨 Lesson #2: Going to the Airport

On your way to the airport:

Don’t say "I’m going to THE airport" always say the NAME of the airport so they don’t take you to the OTHER one.
