How to Avoid Dangerous Hotel Rooms

Reader

Imagine this: There is a fire in the middle of the night at your sketchy hotel in India. And you cannot escape. You are trapped. This is my personal nightmare.

As a solo female traveler, often on a budget, I’ve chosen some sketchy hotels in my past – and learned my lessons the hard way.

So for you, I’ve made a 3-Step Hotel Safety Checklist for choosing hotel rooms.

▸Number one: Never Choose a Windowless Room

I know it’s cheaper, but after reading this email you won’t be able to sleep in a death trap. You need a way out in case of an emergency. Upgrade to the room with a window.

▸Number two: Request a Room Between Floors 2-4

Why? Floor number one is too easy for thieves, terrorists, and floods to access.

Floors two to four require more effort, have more cameras in stairwells or elevators, and if you need to jump out of that window or make your way down safely — you can, in theory.

▸Number three:
Where Are The Emergency Exits?

On your way to your room, keep an eye out for emergency exits.

  • In case of fire, you just have a split second to get out.
  • In case of a power outage or natural disaster, you need to avoid the elevators and take the stairs.

ReaderI have a travel warning for your vagina. Sorry if this is weird...but just give me 30 seconds to explain. When you go on tropical vacation and live in a bathing suit and drink a lot of alcohol, you are putting yourself at risk for both a yeast infection and a UTI. Why? Heat + moisture + sugar from alcohol = perfect breeding ground for Candida yeast and E. coli bacteria. Add sexual relations to the mix and you’re screwed. So here are 4 science-backed prevention tips and tricks to make...

Hey Reader ...will you celebrate with me?The Solo Girl's Travel Guide is turning 8 years old this month! 🎉🎉🎉 Eight years ago, I had a dream of creating a guidebook series for women...to help women travel safer (so they could stop worrying and instead, soak up every moment). I never imagined that that book would turn into... → A full-fledged...
